I haven't made a starfish in awhile and since I change out my artwork display every 60 days at the gallery where I am a member, month will be different. This starfish was made by needle felting core wool and covering with red merino wool. I look on Google images for examples of starfish.
Core wool is inexpensive and still has a bit of lanolin still in it which makes it easy to needle felt into firm shapes. I make F-Bombs out of it, and oranges.
After the initial shape is done, I add bumps. The red wool spots are prefelt scraps that I rolled up and covered with core wool, then needle felted them into the starfish. I never throw anything away!
I needle felted a litltle bit more with embellishing fibers
of Angelina, Firestar, viscose, bamboo and silk
Finally, I wet felted it to remove
the fuzzy fibers sticking out.
