Starfish and shells are becoming popular purchases where I am a member of the COCO Art Gallery in Estero, Florida. I make them in different colors and have used red, blue, green and now orange. Sometimes I add angelina fiber, or shading, or silk tussah fibers.
I first use core wool roving which is less expensive (and won't be visible) to shape the starfish. I use coarse needles at first and then refine with other felting needles.
Sometimes I add shading to the bottom. This is ready to turn over and needle felt the other side
The starfish is large, about 8 inches in diameter. I shaded the middle a lighter color which gives it dimension.
I also make sure it is not symmetrical, as no starfish is the same.
